On March 16, 1966 brothers Paul and James Van Doren opened up their first store, The Van Doren Rubber Company, which manufactured shoes and sold them directly to the public. Skateboarders who liked the rugged make-up and sticky waffle sole of Vans shoes were soon seen sporting them all over the world.
