Lesser Epitomes

A collection of 21 short and closely related pieces organized in three suites, Lesser Epitomes is process music for active or passive listening that incorporates techniques employed in chamber, drone, electronic music and phonography. In addition to the instrumental components, field recordings were made with a compact Sony PCM-D1 Linear PCM recorder in London, Paris, Venice, Florence and Upcountry Maui.

The finished pieces derive from the aleatoric reordering of discreet, compatible musical components in relationships that emulate typical theme and variation. The end results were reprocessed into deliberately modified versions or left as is.

Lesser Epitomes is meant to represent a utilitarian music. Designed as an exercise in juxtaposition, the three principal pieces are indexed to encourage random shuffle during replay, which in turn is meant to provide another layer of reordering for extended and mostly ignorable background play in public or private environments. According to Cyclic Defrost, “Leimer takes a defiantly cerebral approach to music (with) an excellent blend of ambient and neo-classical music which should find favour with fans of a certain eggheaded Englishman.”
